Great Walsingham Barns

The Great Walsingham Barn complex sits on the edge of the village with views of the country side beyond.  It was converted from traditional farm buildings and is now a well known art centre for arts and crafts.

You can look out for buzzards,  red kites, Harriers, Owls and lots of other wildlife along the beautiful walks.

 

Great Walsingham is a delightful village sitting in the vale of the river Stiffkey and has several places of interest.  Walk back into the village and enjoy the Russian Orthodox Church of the Transfiguration (formerly a Victorian Methodist Chapel).  Follow the road down to the ford and note the 16th century Berry Hall, a private residence and private home of poet Rupert Brook's grandfather.

 

Ahead, up the hill is Saint Peters, a fine example of a 14th century church, with many  of it's original medieval features.  Of particular interest are the pew ends with their strangely carved animals, apostles and angels. 

 

There is also the Walsingham Light Railway where you can visit the longest 10¼" narrow gauge steam railway in the world and see the unique Garratt locomotives "Norfolk Hero" and "Norfolk Heroine" which were especially built for this line.
